Overcoming adversity: I still Billieve in Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

Little did I know a little over a year ago when I made this post, that I’d be here today expressing my feelings about a team and player I’ve grown to love.

"I feel like Georgia’s case is in the last few seconds of the Super Bowl and God is about to pull out a miraculous play for the win.

Expecting the unexpected and waiting for a miracle. I know justice IS coming❤️❤️" https://www.instagram.com/p/CVhyW3ar_Pi/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

If you’re an avid football fan and you’re looking for statistics and comparisons — this read is not for you. This is a completely different take on a football player and team who have become names the sports world just can’t stop talking about.

The Buffalo Bills — who are they and where did they come from? Although I was born in Buffalo and always claimed that as my birthplace, I was never a Buffalo Bills person. My passion and knowledge of football... more specifically the Bills, is something relatively new. Like within the last year.

My sister, Georgia Leah Moses, was born in Buffalo, New York on January 7, 1985. Just 12 short years later, she was found murdered and left nude on the side of a Sonoma County Highway. Although my whole family immediate family was born in Buffalo, never in a million years did I think I'd be here today not only advocating for the Bills, but having so much confidence for a team and player many are ready to write off.

In my pursuit to fight for justice and reconnecting with my family, my desire to lay claims to my birthplace, our birthplace, skyrocketed and my eyes opened to the Buffalo Bills and this dynamic player — Josh Allen.

As of today, the NFL has officially completed 10 weeks of mind-blowing football games this season. And if you look back on the weeks, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have broken record after record and have without a doubt, put the whole league on notice.

My knowledge of football is still pretty bleak but one thing I know for sure — Josh Allen has become the unofficial savior of the team. Unfortunately, that can be both a burden and a curse.

This past Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings proved that. As soon as the game ended, talks about it being the “NFL Game of the Century,” quickly started circulating. And if you watched it...you know exactly why! THAT GAME WAS CRAZY!!!!

Now, I know there are a great deal of folks who are going to point out everything wrong that was done in this game and previous games… and I’m here to say go ahead, speak your truth because there were mistakes made. More than a few.

Allen and the Bills have made some pretty significant errors in some of the games played this season. But since my thoughts matter right now, I Billieve we should expect those mistakes to happen. They’re not perfect and they're are performing at less than an optimal level of healthy players. Before this season even started, the burden of perfection was placed on the team’s shoulders and more specifically, Allen’s.

I think the Bills motto needs to be We OVERCOME adversity! Super Bowl Bound! They can even have the famous hurdle pic over the words.

Josh Allen overcome adversity Justice for Georgia Leah Moses

The only way to overcome, is to face adversity. These mistakes are adversity.

My family has proven this time and time again that we have overcome. We’ve survived and overcome so many scenarios that make most people question how we are still standing? How we are still smiling? The answer, in short — God.

Bills head coach, Sean McDermott likes to say “trust the process.” I like to say “trust God’s process.” Everything doesn’t work out how we’d like and yes, there are some things, I wish were never a part of our life story. But through it all, I trust God.

I Billieve my family reuniting when they did, my fight for justice taking root when it did, this season of football and the revelations God has showcased about Allen and some other things are all a part of that process.

My mother’s daughter, me and my brother's sister, was brutally murdered at the age of 12 and 25 years later, her case is unsolved. It doesn't get more devastating than having your loved one murdered. But unfortunately, life's harshness didn't stop there.

But what doesn’t kill you either breaks you, makes you stronger, or both. Many times, we’ve been broken down just to be rebuilt stronger. We're stronger, but we are still rebuilding.

When I look at the 9 games the Bills have played this season, I see them also rebuilding. I see better coming and I see victory coming. I’m really hoping for them to win the Super Bowl, but if they don’t, I am beyond proud of what they’ve showcased this year.

It wasn’t until this summer, July to be exact, when I really knew who number 17 was...Mr. Josh Allen. God added Allen to the Scooby Doo/Georgia Leah Mysteries and without fail, the revelations were mind-blowing.

I didn’t know what those revelations meant or what to expect going forward—than the season started and out of all the times to start watching football—this is the year I started. Week after week, I’m either watching the game or glued to the ESPN score cast. This is beyond wanting to see greatness played. This is literally going through a process that God started way before I even knew what was happening.

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I can’t say what all the details are as it relates to Josh Allen, the Bills, my family’s fight for justice, or the Scooby Doo/Georgia Leah Mysteries. What I do know is that my faith is in God. What needs to happen will. I wholeheartedly Billieve that this season will be one of the best seasons that the Bills have played to date.

I Billieve our stories, Allen, the Bills and my family’s, are one’s meant to defy the odds. Our stories are meant to show the world what it means to overcome adversity and what it means to trust God and His process, despite just how bad and or hopeless things may seem.
